Fanny Mendelssohn & Clara Schumann, Piano Trios. Hyperion
66331. Clara Schumann Piano Trio, Op. 17. The Dartington Piano
Trio plays piano trios by two gifted women composers who were also Felix
Mendelssohn's sister and Robert Schumann's wife. Until recently,
Fanny Mendelssohn & Clara Schumann were sidebars to bigger stories.
But both women were vigorous, original composers who yielded the spotlight
to a dear brother, a beloved husband. The Dartington Trio's recording of
their piano trios captures intimations of genius in their work. Performers:
Oliver Butterworth (Violin), Michael Evans (Cello), Cecile Kelly (Epr),
Edward Perry (Epr), Frank Wibaut (Piano).
