Q. How do I pronounce “Ivor”?
A . Pronounce “Ivor” as you would the word “Ivory” but just leave off the “y”.

Q. Why all the different backgrounds?  What do they mean?
A . In order to pay homage to a “Lover and Maker of Beauty,” a concerted effort has been made to create “visual poetry” with the colors and backgrounds on the site.  If you find them distracting or not working on your browser, you may turn them off by adjusting the Preferences on your browser.  Specifically, the gray flannel pages form a core of logistical pages, channeling the visitor to their area of interest.  Other pages radiating out from those tend to be brighter colors, suiting the topic of each page.  For a particularly brutal illustration of Website “visual poetry,” you’re invited to go to Gurney’s Poetry page and click on the “r” in the word “War.”

Q. What’s wrong? The lines of poetry are messed up!
A . Be sure to maximize your browser so it takes up the whole screen; if that still doesn’t help, go to the View menu and Decrease Font.  Because html code reproduces a text differently for every new computer, you may not be viewing the format which was originally intended.  This site has been maximized for Netscape 4.6.

Q. How do I get around this Website?
A . When clicked, the “Ivor Gurney Poet-Composer” icon at the top left of each page will send you to the bottom of that page where you’ll find a list of all the major topic targets on the site.  Clicking the Gurney picture at the bottom right of each page will take you back to the top of that page.  Clicking the Gurney picture at the top right of each page will take you to the original Index page (Ivor.Gurney.net).

Q. How popular is the Ivor Gurney Website?
A . It's getting more popular by the day.  For exact figures on visitors, consult the webpage counter on the index page at Ivor.Gurney.net where it says, "Visitors since October 12, 1999".  In fact, the site has recently welcomed visitors from the U.S.A., the U.K., the Slovak Republic, and Germany.  If you want to help direct other interested persons to Ivor.Gurney.net, please feel free to place a link on your home page to the Gurney website.

Q. What Search Engines point to the Ivor Gurney Website?

The Ivor Gurney webmaster has submitted the site to the following Search Engines: Altavista, ComFind, Excite, HotBot, Infoseek, Lycos, Netfind.co.uk, Netscape Search, Northern Light, Planet Search, Pronet, Rex, Webcrawler, and The Yellow Pages.  Of course, it takes some time before a given Search Engine indexes the site.  Fortunately, you're already arrived!  Be sure to bookmark the site for future reference and updates.
