Variations in F minor, Op. 72 (1900) (Alexander Glazunov, 1865-1936)
Beware of the haunting of Roberts Recital Hall on the UAH campus Halloween night! For at 7:30 p.m. a unusual concert awaits you! Faculty Tenor David Kenneth Smith with Pianist Marie Libal-Smith welcome you to explore the music of "Departed Spirits" and celebrate the spirit of Halloween with disguises, masks, weird creatures and scary stories. They will perform music of departed German composers who died exactly 100 years ago (Johannes Brahms) and 150 years ago (siblings Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn). You will hear music about abandonment, insanity, revenge, murder, and death … and be tempted by evil elves and lured by the Rhine maiden Lorelei. Before you escape, the masked Phantom of the Opera will coax you to his dungeon with "The Music of the Night." If you dare, come to Recital Hall at 7:30 on Friday, and taste Halloween with a twist… Costumes encouraged; tickets may be purchased at the door; please do call 890-6436 for information.
