(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Geneva College is sponsoring the Refugee & Immigrant Care Conference: Hearing Global Perspectives & Learning How Churches Can Help on Monday, September 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Allegheny Center Alliance Church (ACAC) in Pittsburgh.

This conference aims to increase the awareness of church leaders to the needs of refugees, immigrants and other internationals and to highlight strategies churches can use to proactively offer welcoming and global care initiatives within their communities.

Dr. Cathy Sigmund, Professor of Psychology, Counseling and Human Services at Geneva College and Chaplain at the Christian and Missionary Alliance will speak about churches working collaboratively in global care initiatives at the conference. She also represents EMBRACE Global Care Network.

Numerous speakers will present on a variety of topics, including Life in a Refugee Camp; Refugee and Immigrant Perspectives; Suburban Ministry in Non-Metropolitan Settings; and many more. Attendees will learn about international refugee/immigrant crises and local impacts, hear the stories, concerns and hopes of local refugees,immigrants and internationals, and participate in mini-workshops on developing church-based welcoming and care strategies for people in these groups.

The Conference will be held at the ACAC, Union Place Building (red brick bldg.) at 801 Union Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. Attendees are asked to enter through the parking lot. The conference is open to the public, and lunch is included. The registration fee is $15 per person. Registered participants will receive a Conference Certificate of Participation from Geneva College.
