Beaver Falls, Pa. – The Geneva College baseball team split with visiting Clarks Summit University Defenders winning the first game 4-3 but dropping the second game 9-6. After two scoreless innings in game one, Geneva took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Jericho Hilling (
Branden Schlick recorded the win for Geneva College after pitching three innings where he allowed one hit, one walk, and threw seven strikeouts.
Game two was a different story as the visiting team would command the game winning 9-6. Despite collecting 12 hits in the effort, Geneva also committed five errors. Clarks Summit started the game with a 3-0 run in the first inning to set the pace for the game. Geneva struck back in the bottom of the second when Luciana singled to drive home the runs. Junior Forest Beighley (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) tied the game in the bottom of the third when he singled to drive home a run.
Summit moved too far out of reach in the top of the fourth and fifth innings when they drove home five runs combined to give the Defenders the 8-3 lead that Geneva could not recover from. Despite driving home three more runs in the finals innings, Summit defeated Geneva 9-6.
Taggart, Luciana, Beighley, and Matt Chubb (Absecon, NJ/The Pilgrim Academy) each collected two hits in the game. Senior Caleb Metzler (Lititz, PA/Warwick) collected the loss after allowing three hits, four runs, walking one batter, and throwing one strikeout.
Geneva baseball returns to 33rd Street Field Tuesday, March 21st when they host Medaille College at 2 and 4 p.m.
