Swarthmore, PA – The Geneva College women’s basketball team defeated Swarthmore College 87-83 on the road Friday, November 18. The Golden Tornadoes were able to hold their lead to the end despite a last quarter push from Swarthmore, earning the Tornadoes’ their first win of season and giving them a 1-1 record overall.
Sophomore Callie Ford (New Middletown, OH/Springfield Local) had a monster night, earning 29 total points and finishing with a 69.2% shooting from the paint. Ford also dominated on defense, grabbing eight defensive rebounds.
“Callie is a player that’s able to answer any challenge that’s put in front of her,” commented interim head coach Patience Baker. “We didn’t have a great opener and when the team was challenged to prove themselves, Callie led the charge.”
Marissa Heaney (New Castle PA/Union), senior guard, performed a massive game from outside the arc, going into halftime 4-4 in three-pointers, finishing the game 5-8 from downtown, tallying 20 total points.
Jodie Carlson (Warsaw, IN/Warsaw) had a fantastic impact on the court, racking up 9 defensive rebounds and 16 points.
Geneva takes the court again on Saturday, November 19 for day two of the Swarthmore tournament at 1pm against Moravian College.
