Beaver Falls, PA- The Geneva men’s soccer team defeated the visiting Westminster College 3-0 at home on Wednesday, October 5. The win lifts the Golden Tornadoes record to 7-3-1 overall, 3-0 in the President’s Athletic Conference.
“It was a good team effort,” said head coach Gary Dunda.
Geneva scored first in the 25th minute of the game by freshman Jake Broadwick (Mckees Rocks, PA/Robinson Twp. Christian School), assisted by senior Jonathan Shoaf (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Christian) and junior Gib McCracken (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver County Christian School).
Geneva quickly followed with a second goal in the 31st minute of the game as Junior Clayton Cox (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) scored his first goal of the season from an assist again by Shoaf and senior Brandon Crider (Marion, PA/Shalom Christian Academy).
Junior forward Abel Carleton (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver County Christian School) ensured the win posting an unassisted goal in the 54th minute of the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Luke Nolan (Wexford, PA/ North Allegheny) and the defensive line secured the shutout; Nolan would earn 6 saves.
“It is always good to beat our rivals from the North,” said Dunda. “We are looking forward to Saturday.”
Geneva heads on the road to face Washington & Jefferson for its next conference match on Saturday, October 8 at 1:00 p.m.
