Pittsburgh, PA – The Geneva Women’s Soccer season is officially here as the Golden Tornadoes traveled to La Roche College on Saturday, September 3. A slow start looked anything but promising before Geneva’s offense rallied for a 3-2 win in the 87th minute of the game off the foot of sophomore forward Becca Ceffaratti (West Chester, PA/Bayard Rustin). The win starts Geneva’s 2016 season overall record at 1-0.

La Roche didn’t waste any time before crashing Geneva’s net. Redhawk’s Amanda Ceravolo scored in the first minute of play.

Geneva’s Megan Schoeneweis (Moon, PA/Moon) leveled the game at 1-1 in the 34th minute of the first half. Senior all-conference forward, Kimberly Orihel (Green, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy), handed Geneva a 2-1 advantage before heading into halftime.

La Roche repeated its’ first half performance, equalizing the game in the first minute of the second half, 2-2.

Ceffaratti’s 87th minute goal lifted Geneva over La Roche, assisted by senior Laiton Suders (Chambersburg, PA/Cumberland Valley Christian), avoiding overtime and handing Geneva a winning start to the 2016 season.

"It was a great first win with a balanced attack," said head coach Linda Sumner. "In addition to our offense, Sarah Foy anchored a solid defense."
