Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva ended its six-game losing streak in a 1-0 walk off hit by Clara Sevy (Sykesville, MD / Chapelgate Christian) in the opening game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against Waynesburg. The visiting Yellow Jackets’ solo homer in game two tied the game and set up a 3-2 win. The split moves Geneva’s overall record to 11-11, 1-5 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

"It was nice to get a win, it was nice to get a conference win,” said head coach Van Zanic. “I thought Emily (Kesler) did really well today and I think our defense was probably the best it has been in weeks. We didn’t win the second game because we missed a lot of chances offensively. We had a lot of good chances later in that game and didn’t capitalize on them so we ended up splitting instead of getting a sweep. I was really proud of the way we played we just need to shore up the offense a little bit and get some big hits."

In the bottom of the seventh and the opener still scoreless, Laura Beck (Canfield, OH / Canfield) reached on an error and advanced to third of Lucia Fee’s (Wampum, PA / Mohawk) single to right field.

Sevy’s smack to right field brought home Beck for the win.

Emily Kesler (Mt. Pleasant, PA / Connellsville) earned the win surrendering five hits, walking two and stricking out five while allowing no runs.

Hayley Sainato (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) opened up game two with a triple, crossing home plate thanks to a sacrifice fly by Beck.

Waynesburg tied the game at 1-1 in the third answered by a single run in the fourth by the GTs. The Yellow Jackets scored a run in the fifth and sixth to edge Geneva 3-2 thanks to a homer in the fifth and two hits in the sixth.

Kelser took the loss, giving up 10 hits.

Geneva turns around quickly heading to Washington & Jefferson on Thursday, April 14 in a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
