New Wilmington, PA – Geneva had a hot hand early, shooting 57% in the first half to give the Golden Tornadoes a 40-32 at the halftime against archrival Westminster. Geneva couldn't hold on, though, dropping a 79-78 to the Titans.
The loss makes Geneva as the eighth seed in the league with an overall record of 5-20, 5-13 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The Golden Tornadoes will host ninth seed Chatham on Monday, February 22 at 7 p.m.
Westminster hit four three-pointers midway through the second half to take a 63-61 lead. Although the Golden Tornadoes rallied from a five point deficit (77-72) with 2:30 remaining to make it a one possession game at 1:01 (79-76), Geneva couldn’t regain the lead.
Geneva forced a turnover with 16 seconds left and trailing 79-78 but the final shot didn’t connect.
Ethan Adamczyk (Uniontown, OH/Lake) topped Geneva's scoring with 31 points and added seven rebounds.
Chaese Vaudrin (Uniotown,OH/Lake) racked up 18 points and seven rebounds. Jimmy Leichliter (Connellsville, PA/ Connellsville) also scored double digits with 12 and grabbed seven rebounds.
“It was a tough battle,” said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. “It was a carbon copy of first game but switched rolls.”
“We have a quick turn around to host Chatham on Monday.”
