Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva gained the lead over the visiting Bethany early and the Golden Tornadoes never looked back, raising their overall record to 9-9, 6-5 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) in an 85-73 final. Geneva took the lead for good at 10-9 in the first quarter.
A three-pointer by sophomore guard Lydia Songer (Wexford PA/Pine Richland) lifted Geneva to a 37-25 over Bethany in the second quarter and the Golden Tornadoes went to the locker room at halftime with a 10-point cushion, 39-29.
After maintaining the lead in the third (64-52), senior guard Heidi Mann’s (Colorado Springs, CO/Evangelical Christian Academy) free throws extended Geneva’s lead to 79-59 with 4:12 remaining, sealing the win
Mann finished the game with 20 points and eight rebounds.
“We defended well at the end of the game,” said head coach Lori Wynn. “We also had four with double digit points. Nicole, Callie and Lydia really stepped up.”
Senior guard Nicole Hyland (Trafford, PA/Penn Trafford) and freshman guard Callie Ford (New Middletown, OH/Springfield Local) each reached 17 points. Hyland grabbed eight rebounds, Ford seven. Songer finished with 15 points in the win.
Geneva next plays Saturday at 4:00 at St. Vincent.
