Huntingdon, PA - Geneva volleyball played its first game in the weekend long Juniata Tournament defeating Bridgewater 3-0 (25-8, 25-20, 25-19). The win raises Geneva’s overall record to 23-4, 12-2 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).
Rachel Netherland (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) dominated the offensive game with 13 kills in 22 swings giving up only one error (.545).
Marissa Naples (Cortland, OH/Lakeview), Erica Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton) and Grace Hayes (Westminster, MD/Westminster) each earned eight kills in the three sets.
“Our hitters all hit well,” said co-head coach Curt Conser.
“Bridgewater is one of the best defensive teams we have played all season. We executed offensively in a high level, playing clean with minimal errors.”
In addition to Geneva’s outstanding offense performance, the team earned nine service aces.
“We had a strong serving performance,” said Conser.
Naples led the team in assists with 23.
Defensively, Gabrielle Dickson (Brookfield, OH/Kennedy Catholic) collected 22 digs.
“Tomorrow’s matches we play the number 24 and number 1 team in the country. If we play similar to how we did today could give ourselves a chance to be successful.”
Saturday, October 24 Geneva is set to face Carnegie Mellon University at 2 p.m. and the nationally top ranked Juniata at 6 p.m.
