Beaver Falls, PA – The 2015 Golden Tornado baseball season came to a close this afternoon in Washington, PA. Geneva finished with an overall record of 13-27, 5-19 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) after W&J defeated the Golden Tornadoes 4-0, 3-1 in the day’s doubleheader.

During game one Geneva could only find one hit that came from Geneva’s top of the batting order, Shane Wingard (Clarksburg, PA/Apollo Ridge), off the second pitch of the game.

Washington & Jefferson compiled the four run win with two in the first, one in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Drew Nichols (New Wilmington, PA/Wilmington) was charged with the loss.

In game two the Golden Tornadoes made more contact with the ball with five hits leading to a run in the third.

Stephen MacLean (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) lead the GTs into the third inning with a single to right field. A sacrifice ground out by Wingard advanced MacLean to second followed by Ryan McGonigle’s (Vandergrift, PA/Apollo Ridge) rbi single. The run slimed the W&J President’s lead by two, 3-1. Unfortunately for the GTs the scoreboard would change after the third allowing the President’s three run first inning to be good enough for the win.

Zach Ackerman (Lewis Center, OH/Worthington Christian) took the loss after six innings of work striking out three and walking only one.

“We may have played two of the best games all year,” said Head Coach Alan Sumner.

“Unfortunately we were on the losing end but Drew and Zach pitched great games.”
