BEAVER FALLS, PA – Geneva football’s Nate Cannon (Palm Beach Garden, FL/Kings Academy) was one of ten named Rookie of the Year in the ECAC within all division levels and regions.
Cannon lead the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) with seven interceptions during his freshman season as a Member of the Golden Tornadoes. He also was second in the conference in punt returns with a 15.6 yards average, broke up seven passes, and made 41 tackles. The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) is set to host its Annual Eastern College Football Awards Banquet on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherfold, NJ. Cannon will be featured and honored as the 2014 ECAC Division III South Football Players of the Year as well as a member of the 2014 ECAC Division III South Football All-Star First Team for his work as a defensive back.
Head coach Geno DeMarco responded saying, “Obviously it is exciting for the Golden Tornadoes to be part of the ECAC and the have one of our players to receive this award is gratifying.”
Geneva’s Director of Athletics, Van Zanic, commented, “The ECAC has provided a great opportunity for our student-athletes to be recognized for outstanding achievement during our first year of membership. Nate is a great example of a student-athlete that has been rewarded for his hard work on the field. We are very proud of his dedication and hard work to the football program this past fall. We are continually encouraged by the work that our student-athletes are doing on and off the field and are extremely pleased with our new relationship with the ECAC.”
