PEARCE AND RICH CLOSE OUT CAREERS WITH
ALL-AMERICAN HONORS
Beaver Falls, PA - It has certainly been an impressive run for seniors Amy Pearce and Michawn Rich. Each has attempted to rewrite the Geneva College softball record books and each was a part of a senior class that has combined for more victories than any other in school history. On Tuesday, the pair received yet another honor as they were both named NCCAA All-Americans for the 2009 campaign. Pearce received her second consecutive first-team selection and Rich was an honorable mention selection.
During her four years, Pearce set a total of eight new school records. This season, she hit a single season record .456 with six home runs and 41 RBI′s. She led the team with her 15 doubles and .746 slugging percentage. For her career, Pearce set school records for batting average (.407), hits (232), home runs (27) and RBI′s (152). She was the NCCAA eastern regional player of the year for the past two years and was also a NCAA Division III Softball Magazine pre-season All-American.
Rich hit .354 this year with 46 hits and a team best 33 runs scored. She also knocked in 23 runs and had four home runs. Rich set the Geneva school record with 121 runs scored in the last four years. She also broke the previous record for career hits with 194 in her career, but Pearce finished with 38 more during the same time period.
"These two have been the heart and soul of our offense for the past four years," said head coach Van Zanic. "I am so proud to have had the opportunity to coach them for the last four years. They are outstanding softball players and better people. They will be a hard act to follow."
