PERFECT WEEK CAPPED WITH WIN OVER WAYNESBURG
Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva College′s women′s basketball team capped a perfect 3-0 week on Saturday night with an impressive 75-60 victory over Waynesburg University at Metheny Fieldhouse. The win improved Geneva′s overall record to 7-5 while the Yellowjackets fell to 4-8 with their fourth loss in a row.
Geneva′s offense was clicking on all cylinders on Saturday with an impressive 51% shooting mark from the field. The Golden Tornadoes were 23-45 from the field including 7-12 from outside the three-point arc. Geneva was also effective from the foul line with a mark of 22-29. For the second game in a row, Geneva′s bench was effective with 38 of the team′s 75 points. Alyssa Miller posted a career high with 19 points while Christine Carugati matched her season high with 19 points to help the Golden Tornadoes. Carugati was 3-6 from three-point range, while Miller knocked down six field goals and six free throws. Leading scorer Michawn Rich was held to just two points, but teammate Rachel Barry helped Geneva with ten in the victory.
Waynesburg was led by Elisha Jones′ 15 points and 11 points from Callie White. Waynesburg was held to just ten second half field goals as they watched Geneva extend a ten point halftime lead to as many as 20 points late in the game.
The Golden Tornadoes will face top ten ranked and defending PAC champions Thomas More at home on Wednesday night before heading out onto the road next Saturday to play Thiel College.
