EARLY GOAL HOLDS UP AS GROVECITYBEATS
GENEVATO CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON
Grove City, PA - It didn′t take much offense, but on Saturday afternoon Grove City managed one early goal to hold off Geneva 1-0 in the 2008 regular season finale. The Golden Tornadoes and sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Londino had not allowed a goal in four matches, but it didn′t take long for the Wolverines to put an end to that streak. Just 1:38 into the match, the Wolverines got a goal from Stephanie Wild and managed to hold off Geneva the rest of the way. With the loss, only the second in 13 matches for the Golden Tornadoes, Geneva fell to 8-4-5 to close out the regular season.
Geneva managed 12 shots in the match and only five shots on goal. Meanwhile, Grove City peppered the Geneva net with 28 shots, including ten on the net. Fortunately, Londino was again sharp as a tack by turning away nine of the ten attempts.
The Golden Tornadoes close out their incredible regular season with eight victories and will not wait for the start of the NCCAA east regional tournament later this month. The tournament will most likely include a four-team format with the winner heading to the national tournament in the first week of December.
