POST UNKIND AS GENEVAANDSAINT VINCENT
BATTLE TO SCORELESS TIE
Beaver Falls, PA - The goalpost on both ends of the field got quite a workout on Friday evening. Saint Vincent found the post once and Geneva found it twice in the second half of a game that ended without any balls finding the back of the net. Geneva and Saint Vincent battled to a 0-0 double overtime time. The Golden Tornadoes moved to 6-3-4 on the season as sophomore Lauren Londino picked up her seventh shut-out of the season.
Although the game ended with neither team scoring it was not short on excitement. After Geneva was out played and out shot in the first half, the Golden Tornadoes took the better of the play in the final 45 minutes and into overtime. Melissa Brooks pounded a ball of the post midway through the first half and Amanda Caler′s direct kick in the final moments of regulation hit the far post. Geneva did manage to get nine shots on the goal, but Saint Vincent goalkeeper Kirstie Mills was up for the challenge on each of them. Londino stopped five shots to preserve her shut-out as Geneva has dropped just one match in the last nine outings.
For the match, Geneva out shot Saint Vincent 19-14, including a decisive 15-8 advantage in the final 65 minutes of action.
Geneva will travel to Waynesburg next Tuesday before returning for the home finale next Saturday against Thomas More.
