MAKING IT LOOKEASY GENEVATAKES A PAIR TO
MOVETO 16-5 IN 2008
Waynesburg, PA - Could it really be this easy? That is the question Geneva is asking itself after cruising to a pair of 3-0 victories against Waynesburg and Chatham on Saturday afternoon. The pair of wins helped the Golden Tornadoes improve to 16-5 on the season, including a mark of 9-1 against PAC foes. Geneva, which recently came off an 11-match winning streak was coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss at Carnegie Mellon Thursday. Geneva seemingly showed no ill effects from that loss as it cruised to a pair of three game victories on Saturday.
The day started with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-22) victory over host Waynesburg. In the victory, Adriane Blake led the offense with 12 kills and picked up a team best 19 digs in the process. Rachel Kuegler added 11 kills and Elizabeth Fisher chipped in with nine kills. Brandi Snavely led the way with 35 assists in the first match victory.
Match number two of the day was even more impressive against Chatham. Geneva′s 3-0 (25-2, 25-10, 25-15) victory started by allowing Chatham just two points in the first game. The Golden Tornadoes served their way to the victory with an incredible 24 team aces in the match. Rachel Kuegler had eight kills and Michelle Zimmovan chipped in with six kills to help Geneva′s cause. Snavely added 32 assists in match number two, while Faith Guerra and Brianna Mixter each came away with eight digs.
The Golden Tornadoes will host Bethany College on Tuesday night before hosting the 2008 NCCAA East Regional tournament next Friday and Saturday. Participating regional teams include Roberts Wesleyan, Mt. Vernon Nazarene, Malone and Nyack. The regional winner will advance into the NCCAA national tournament in Colorado in December.
