NEWMONTH, SAME RESULTS, MEN′S SOCCER
WINS 9TH STRAIGHT OVER 2007 NCAA QUALIFIER
BeaverFalls, P A - The calendar changed to October, but the winning has not stopped for the Geneva men′s soccer team. On Wednesday night, the Golden Tornadoes put together perhaps their most impressive victory of the season with a 3-0 victory over Penn State Behrend. The win was Geneva′s ninth straight and helped improve its overall record to 9-1 on the season. Behrend, a team that advanced into the final 16 of the NCAA national tournament in 2007, fell to 4-5 on the season.
It didn′t take long for Geneva to make its presence felt at the Merriman Athletic Complex. Josh Mann took a pass from Zac Buffalini and buried his second goal of the season just 1:54 into the first half. The Golden Tornadoes extended that lead on an unassisted goal off the foot of Caleb Musselman. Both Mann and Musselman are freshman, but looked very unlike newcomers on Wednesday night.
Geneva′s Jake McCracken gave the Golden Tornadoes an insurance goal in the 58th minute off of a rebound from Musselman. David Callahan, making his first home start of the season, turned aside seven shots to earn his third victory and second shut-out of the season. Behrend posted 14 shots to Geneva′s nine for the match, but three of Geneva′s five shots on goal found the back of the net.
After starting the season with ten matches against non-PAC opponents, Geneva will take its first crack against the conference on Friday. The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Bethany College for an 8 pm kickoff. Geneva will return home next Wednesday to host Washington & Jefferson.
