DISAPPOINTING HOME OPENER AS GENEVA
FALLS TO POINTPARK
Beaver Falls, PA- Geneva′s women′s soccer team got off to a promising start in 2008 with a pair of victories over the weekend to match its entire win total from 2007. On Tuesday night, the Golden Tornadoes put their perfect record on the line in the home opener. Unfortunately for the home fans Geneva′s offense did not show up and the Golden Tornadoes dropped a 2-0 decision to Point Park. The Pioneers improved to 2-1 on the season, while Geneva dropped to 2-1.
Geneva out shot Point Park 14-9 for the game, but it was the two goals that found the net for the Pioneers that made the difference. Angela Olivieri opened the scoring for the Pioneers in the 40th minute on the first goal allowed by Geneva and goalkeeper Lauren Londino on the season. Londino had posted back to back shut-outs to start the season. Senior goalkeeper Amber Weaver started the second half and also allowed a goal in her first action. Amanda Hruska found the net in the 53rd minute to give all Point Park all the offense it would need on the night. Geneva managed just four shots on goal, all of which were turned aside by Emily Tomalewski for the Pioneers.
Geneva will try to get back on the winning track on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Pitt-Bradford at Merriman Athletic Complex at 2 pm.
