ROSS THE BOSS, SENIOR HUSTLE LEADS
GENEVAPAST THOMAS MORE
Beaver Falls, PA - Nobody has ever criticized Geneva′s Mike Ross for being out hustled. The senior guard helped the Golden Tornadoes win their second straight with a 77-68 victory over Thomas More College on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Tornadoes improved to 12-11, while the Saints dropped to 9-15.
Ross carried the Golden Tornadoes with his hustle in the first half and his strong play continued into the second stanza. The senior ended the game with a team high 17 points, to go along with eight rebounds and four assists. Geneva′s other two backcourt players were key contributors to Geneva′s victory. Bryan Hill knocked down five treys and finished with 15 points, while Justin Nardi was 5-8 from the field for 16 points.
Nardi put an exclamation point on the first half with a running one-hander from 22 feet that banked in at the buzzer to give Geneva a 39-39 lead at the half. The Golden Tornadoes used the momentum to open a 14 points lead with six of the first eight points in the second half. Geneva continued its run and took a 52-34 lead on Matt Blocki′s jump shot with 14:53 left in the second half. Thomas More tried to rally, but could not get the game into single digits until Matty Owens banked in a three-point shot with under three seconds left in regulation.
Geneva shot 51% from the field and held the Saints to just a 36% mark, including only ten field goals in the first half.
The Golden Tornadoes begin the final week of the regular season with a trip to Thiel on Wednesday. Next Saturday, Geneva closes out the regular season with a home game against Westminster College.
