COUGARS CAGED, GENEVADEFENSE LOCKS
DOWN FOR WIN OVER CHATHAM
Beaver Falls, PA - Wednesday′s women′s basketball at Metheny Fieldhouse was anything but an offensive showcase. However, Geneva′s defense held Chatham to just 15 field goals for the night in a 49-37 victory. The Golden Tornadoes improved to 11-1 on the season, while Chatham dropped to 4-6.
Geneva′s defense was far from sparkling as it generated only 13 field goals for the game and shot just 24%. Renee Rawding led the way with 19 points on just 5-17 shooting. Michawn Rich and Allyson Clarke each posted 11 points and combined for 29 rebounds, with Clarke continuing her dominance on the glass with 19 boards.
Geneva took a 15-point lead into the locker room and put the game into cruise control for most of the second half. Chatham made a run midway through the half and cut the lead to just six points at 39-33 with just over six minutes to play. Clarke scored four of Geneva′s next six points to extend the lead to 12 points and Chatham never again got with single digits.
Chatham got seven points and six rebounds from Allason Holt to lead the Cougars, who were coming off their first PAC victory on Saturday in a 66-60 victory over Grove City College.
Geneva will take to the road for six of the seven games, including a date with Waynesburg on Saturday evening. The Golden Tornadoes return to Metheny Fieldhouse a week from Saturday to host Thiel College in the only remaining home game during the month of January.
