CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETES HONORED
FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE CLASSROOM
Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s cross country team certainly had its fair share of success in the athletic arena in 2007. Clearly head coach Bret Otte also has his student-athletes excelling in the classroom as five cross country runners were honored by the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) for their excellence in the academic arena.
The NCCAA honors juniors and seniors that have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or better. Geneva was honored with four female recipients, as well as the lone senior on the men′s team.
Phillip Falk, a Mechanical Engineering major, served as Geneva′s lone senior on the men′s team and was recognized as a Scholar-Athlete.
On the women′s side, Beth Bartolomeo (Human Services), Nicole Okerlund (Biology), Laura Seyler (Elementary Education) and Rebecca VanRegenmorter (Political Science) were all named NCCAA Scholar-Athletes.
Falk represented Geneva, along with his brother Josh, at the NCCAA National Cross Country. In women′s action, the entire Golden Tornadoes team qualified for the national meet.
"We are thrilled for these student-athletes," said head coach Bret Otte. "We are very serious about our academics and each one of these folks deserves these accolades. It is a tribute to the hard work that is put it on a daily basis."
