GLIMPSE INTO THE FUTURE SHINES BRIGHT AS
GENEVAGLISTENS AT PAC MEET
Latrobe, PA- It will still be a few years before Geneva′s cross country teams can gain eligibility for Presidents′ Athletic Conference team awards. Like the other athletic teams on College Hill, Geneva′s cross county team is in its first provisional season as a member of NCAA Division III. As a result, the Golden Tornadoes are not yet eligible for NCAA post-season accolades. On Saturday, however, Geneva′s men and women did get a glimpse into the future as both teams competed alongside the rest of the new conference at the PAC Championships at Saint Vincent College. Although the results didn′t count for conference standings, Geneva′s men finished fourth and the women had a second place overall finish. Grove City′s men and women defended their PAC championships on both sides, which marked the 19th consecutive year that the Wolverines brought home the gold.
Geneva, did however, give the defending champs a run for their money as the women′s team finished just 19 points behind Grove City. Led by Rebecca VanRegnmorter′s fourth place finish, Geneva placed seven runners in the top 20. VanRegenmorter posted a time of 24:03, while teammates Susan Fletcher and Beth Bartolomeo placed fifth and sixth overall.
Other top female finishers included Laura Seyler (11th), Sara Morrison (12th) and Nicole Okerlund (14th).
In men′s action, Geneva posted a fourth place overall finish behind only Grove City, Washington & Jefferson and Westminster. Phillip Falk and Josh Falk nearly crossed the finish line together. Phil posted a time of 28:41, which was good enough for 18th place, while brother Josh finished 19th in a time of 28:43. Other Geneva runners in the top 30 included freshmen Josh Gunnett (29th) and Ryan Thorn (30th).
Geneva′s women will now prepare for the NCCAA national championships at Cedarville University on November 10th. Meanwhile, Phil Falk will represent the men′s team at Cedarville in two weeks.
