FIRST HALF LEAD ERASED, GENEVAFALLSTO WAYNESBURG
Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s women′s soccer team had gone nine games without ever having a lead in a match. On Friday night, the Golden Tornadoes erased that trend as they scored first against Waynesburg University. Geneva, however, was unable to hold the lead and Waynesburg escaped with a 2-1 decision. The loss dropped Geneva′s overall record to 2-11-1 and moved its winless streak to nine games.
Geneva′s Jamie Gessner opened the scoring with her second goal of the season in the 33rd minute. The Golden Tornadoes controlled play for most of the first half and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Waynesburg tied the game just four minutes into the second half and got the potential game winner nine minutes later.
Geneva out shot Waynesburg 17-8 for the game, but Geneva was only able to find the net on one of its nine shots on goal. Amber Weaver made four saves in the match, but it was Geneva′s offense that came alive, but was simply unable to finish, including several chances in the final ten minutes to tie the game.
Geneva will travel to Thomas More next Wednesday before returning to Merriman Complex next Friday to host Bethany.
