LOSING STREAK AND SCORELESS STREAKS END WITH
TIE AT CHATHAM
Pittsburgh, PA - Geneva′s women′s soccer team didn′t get the win it was so desperately looking for, but it didn′t get its seventh straight loss either on Friday afternoon. The Golden Tornadoes managed a 1-1 tie against Chatham College in Pittsburgh on Friday after a double overtime session couldn′t decide the winner. In addition to having lost six straight, Geneva was sitting on a three-game scoreless streak. The tie with Chatham moved Geneva′s overall record to 2-9-1 for the season.
Geneva spotted Chatham the first goal of the match in the 21st minute of play. Chatham remained up a goal until the 68th minute. Sophomore Amanda Caler notched her second goal of the season on an unassisted tally the tied the game. Geneva had numerous chances in regulation and in overtime to get the game winner, but could not find the net.
For the match, Geneva out shot Chatham by a 21-20 count, while Geneva goalkeeper Amber Weaver came up with 12 saves to preserve the tie. Although Geneva controlled most of the play in overtime, Chatham clearly had the best opportunity to end the game when it was awarded a penalty kick with less than five minutes remaining in the match. Weaver proved to be up to the task with the game saving effort to end Geneva′s six-game losing streak.
Geneva will travel to Saint Vincent next Wednesday before returning to Merriman Athletic Complex next Friday evening to take on Waynesburg CollegeLearn more about Geneva College.
