GABE SAVER, KLEINERT NETS DRAMATIC WINNER IN
VICTORY OVER WESTMINSTER
Beaver Falls, PA - Drama was running at a fevered pitch at the Merriman Athletic Complex on Monday night as Geneva hosted rival Westminster in the first match between the two schools as members of the Presidents′ Athletic Conference. The match-up lived up to its billing as both teams battled through a scoreless tie for the first 88 minutes of the match. Gabe Kleinert smashed the game winner into the back of the net with just under two minutes remaining to give Geneva a 1-0 victory. The win helped the Golden Tornadoes improve to 8-2, while Westminster dropped to 4-3-2 on the season.
Westminster out shot Geneva for the game by the slim margin of 9-7, but Geneva goalkeeper Sam McCracken made four saves to pick up the victory and secure his fourth shut-out of the season.
A scramble for the ball inside the Westminster box was knocked out to Kleinert, who let rip a wicked shot that found the left side of the net on a goal that sent the home town crowd into a frenzy. Kleinert, who scored just his second goal of the season, picked up his second game winning tally of the year.
If Monday night′s action is any indication of the type of rivalry this will be for years to come, it should be an exciting ride throughout the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.
Geneva will host Daemen College at Merriman Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm before taking to the road on Saturday to face Malone College.
