GAINING GROUND, BUT NOT VICTORIES
Beaver Falls, PA - Prior to Monday night′s volleyball match, Geneva co-head coach Wendy Smith said her team was playing much better than its record indicated. After dropping a 3-0 decision to Point Park University, that theme evolved again as the Golden Tornadoes continue to battle, but are still looking for their first victory of 2007. Geneva lost for the ninth straight time falling to 0-9 with a sweep by Point Park by scores of 30-27, 30-26, 30-27.
While Geneva continued to struggle, Point Park continued its impressive early season roll by moving to 10-3 on the young season.
Geneva′s young line-up was once again close in all three games, but has yet to be able to figure out how to get over the hump. In fact, Geneva has not been outscored in games by the count of 27-3 in its first nine matches.
On Monday night, Geneva was once again led by freshman Adriane Blake in kills, while both Michelle Zimmovan and Blair Bruce also contributed on the front line. Transfer Brandi Snavely continued her consistent play as Geneva′s first year setter, who came into the match averaging close to 10 assists per game.
Geneva will once again head on the road this weekend to battle W & J and Thomas More in a three-way cluster to be played in Kentucky. The schedule will certainly not be in Geneva′s favor as the Golden Tornadoes don′t return to Metheny Fieldhouse until October 10th.
