ROUGH START FOR GENEVAWOMEN AT CEDARVILLE
Beaver Falls, PA - It was not exactly the way new head coach Linda Sumner had hoped her opening weekend would turn out for Geneva′s women′s soccer team. Ironically, Sumner and the Golden Tornadoes ventured back into familiar territory against two strong opponents from Geneva′s past in the American Mideast Conference. Playing for the first time as members of NCAA Division III, the Golden Tornadoes opened the new season with a pair of losses against their old-time foes.
On Friday night, Geneva dropped a 4-0 decision to Cedarville University, the host of the week-ends festivities. On Saturday, Geneva fell to NAIA top 20 opponent Ohio Dominican by the count of 6-0.
Geneva′s young team kept things close against Cedarville for most of the night, before the Yellow jackets were finally able to put the game away in the second half. Sumner will get the chance to bring her new team home for their first action at Merriman Athletic Conference on Wednesday night when they host Franciscan University at 7 pm.
