Late Rally Leads to Victory over Grove City
Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s day did not start as planned as the Golden Tornadoes committed three first inning errors and allowed Grove City to jump out on top. However, the Golden Tornadoes rallied from six runs down to capture a 9-8 victory in ten innings. The win moved Geneva′s overall record to 24-18.
Trailing by one, Mike Bruno brought Geneva right back with a homer to lead off the bottom of the first. Rob Arata then delivered a sacrifice fly to put Geneva on top. Grove City reeled off seven straight runs and took an 8-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth.
In the sixth, Geneva used a six hit attack to put five runs on the board and cut the lead to one. A two-run single from Arata followed RBI singles from Bruno and Matt Colella. Trailing by a run in the bottom of the ninth, Tyler Kepiro delivered a sacrifice fly to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
In the first extra frame, Arata delivered the game winning base hit to give the Golden Tornadoes a victory. Phillip Shallenberger pitched from the fifth inning on to pick up the victory in relief.
Geneva, one game behind Walsh in the AMC North standings, will face-off against Point Park in a four-game series this weekend to close out the regular season.
