Beaver Falls, PA – Kyle McDermott′s week just keeps getting better. Geneva′s senior forward helped the Golden Tornadoes to a 2-1 week with an average of 23 points per game in those three contests.
Last Friday night, in Geneva′s only loss of the week to Taylor University, McDermott (Jamestown, NY) scored 17 points including career point number 1000, becoming just the 33rd player in Geneva history to reach that milestone.
As a result of McDermott′s achievement and his consistent play, including a 72% mark from the field for the week, on Tuesday he was named the American Mideast Conference player of the week.
McDermott began his week by putting up 30 points in Geneva′s 82-69 victory at Penn State Beaver. Over the weekend, McDermott scored a combined 39 points as Geneva split a pair of games at the Anderson University tournament. On Saturday, McDermott was a perfect 9-9 from the field in Geneva′s 124-63 victory over Indiana University-East. For the week, McDermott shot an incredible 72% from the field.
For the season, McDermott leads Geneva with 18.7 points per game and is also averaging 4.4 rebounds per contest. McDermott is among the top five in the country with his shooting percentage of 69% in Geneva′s first seven games.
Having started the season with a 5-2 record, the Golden Tornadoes will host Grove City College on Wednesday and welcome Westminster College to Metheny Fieldhouse on Saturday night.
