CMU Tournament Opens With Two Losses
Pittsburgh, PA - Geneva′s volleyball team opened play at the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational on Friday and the results were not what it was hoping for on day one. The Golden Tornadoes came up empty in the victory column after a pair of matches on Friday. Geneva fell to Stevens Institute of Technology 3-1 and then dropped a 3-0 decision to Rochester Institution of Technology. The two losses dropped Geneva′s overall record to 5-7, including three straight in the loss column.
Marisa Barickman combined for a team best 27 digs in the two matches, while Allison Seldomridge and Caryn Azure did their best to compliment the Golden Tornadoes offense, but it proved to not be enough.
Geneva split the first two games against Stevens and then could only combine for 37 points in the final two games. In match number two, the Golden Tornadoes could not recover against RIT after dropping game one 31-29.
Geneva will get another chance at CMU on Saturday with two more matches. The Golden Tornadoes will match up against Gettysburg College and Nazareth College before heading home. The Golden Tornadoes will host Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Thursday night in just their second home match of the season.
