Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act
Explanation of CRRSAA HEERF II Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students
Geneva College distributed Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF II) moneys in the form of emergency financial aid grants to eligible students including traditional undergraduate, adult, online, and graduate students, including students attending the Pittsburgh Campus.
Students excluded were those prohibited from receiving funds under the CRRSAA (non-citizens, DACA, and other students who did not or could not verify their eligibility to receive federal financial aid). No payments were issued to students who did not verify their eligibility by submitting the FAFSA by March 10, 2021. Also, early college (pre-college) students were excluded from receiving HEERF II funds. International students, DACA, and others who could not verify citizenship in the US were excluded from consideration in distribution of the emergency financial aid grants.
The College established eligibility based on each student’s Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as listed on their FAFSA. The College created bands of eligibility based on the student’s EFC as follows:

A graduate student taking 6 or more credits in the Spring 2021 semester is considered full-time. An undergraduate student taking 12 or more credits in the Spring 2021 semester is considered full-time. Eligible part-time students receive a prorated portion of the above amount based on the number of credits taken in the Spring 2021 semester in relation to number of credits necessary for full-time status.
Use of the Emergency Financial Aid Grants
Students were informed “these emergency financial aid grants are to be used to help cover expenses for any component of a student’s cost of attendance and emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus (such as tuition, food, housing, health care - including mental health, and child care).”Explanation to Establish Need-based Criteria
Band A Reasoning: EFC of $2,000 or less. These are the neediest students at Geneva with very little financial resources.
Band B Reasoning: EFC between 2,001 and 6,000. These are students that have a small EFC but still have very little resources from the family.
Band C Reasoning: The College established a threshold of $12,000 as it relates to a student’s wherewithal to pay for College (EFC) and PHEAA grant eligibility.
Band D Reasoning: The College established a 4th band where students receive a smaller grant and students have a modest level of family support.
Band E Reasoning: These students were not allocated any emergency financial aid grants under HEERF II due to their higher levels of EFC.
