When should I begin my summer job search?

Fall semester: think about what industry you would like to get experience in, network with people you know through school, church, community, family, faculty, career development, etc.

Fall break/Christmas Break/Spring Break: visit potential employment site(s) to introduce yourself in person and submit resume, think about housing options, continue networking

January: get resumes out, get resumes on summer job Web sites, continue networking

February: follow-up on resumes, continue checking summer job Web sites, continue networking, begin researching housing options

March: follow-up on resumes and Web sites, continue networking, attend Camp, Sport, & Ministry Summer Opportunities Fair at Geneva College, research housing options, research local staffing agencies

April/May: follow-up on resumes and Web sites, continue networking, interview, follow-up on housing options, register with local staffing agencies if needed

What if I'm limited to living at home?

• Use your local networks (family, home church, friends, etc).
• Survey your community for summer job opportunities the previous summer/fall
• Get your resumes out very early (you will be competing with high school students)
• Consider working Fall, Christmas, and Spring Breaks for the summer employer

What are my summer job options?

Camps, Theme Parks, State Parks, Retail, Resorts, Cruise Ships, Seasonal work (ie: landscaping, pool maintenance), Colleges, Factories, Office Services, Nanny, and Summer Internships
