Just completed his first book, "Sacred Texts: Finding Faith Among the Dying," drawn from his years of experience as a hospice Chaplain. The overall theme is encountering God not only in the written word but in the lives of those he encountered. God speaks to us in so many ways, and isn't limited to scripture alone. He brings people into our lives to strengthen, encourage, challenge, and enlighten us, but we may miss Him in the encounter if our eyes aren't open to Him. Sam's goal is that the stories and lives presented will not only provide hope and encouragement, but open the reader's eyes to how God is speaking to him or her through the world around them. "Sacred Texts" is available on Amazon.

Was asked by InterVarsity Press to write a new foreword for the publishing of a golden anniversary edition of The God Who is There by Francis Schaeffer. In the early 1970s, Steve had dropped out of college and left the Beaver Valley to live in counter-cultural communes for two years, first in the San Francisco Bay area, and eventually finding his way to L’Abri, an organization started by the Schaeffers. He entered into a community in which a love for people and a love for truth both mattered, a vision which transformed him for the rest of life. From the 1960s into the 1980s, Francis Schaeffer was an influential voice in Steve’s life as he argued for the intellectual integrity of Christian belief in the modernizing and post-modernizing culture. Francis and his wife Edith hosted thousands of young people from all over the world who hitchhiked their way to L’Abri in the small Swiss village of Huémoz who were asking honest questions and hoping for honest answers. The book The God Who Is There, with its evocative title, was an invitation for many to seek a deeper, truer faith, and this remains true 50 years after its first printing.
