• Hensel Bicentennial Song Recitals
   
  Bicentennial of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel celebrated in Song Recitals by Soprano Anne Hagan Bentz, Tenor David Kenneth Smith, Pianist Marie Libal-Smith. Presented on two nights: Saturday, November 12, at 7:30 p.m. at Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania (Directions), in White Chapel, and Monday, November 14, at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pennsylvania (Directions), in Wallace Chapel.  Free Admission.  For information, email: DKSmith@ClaraSchumann.net. 
   
  Relegated to a life of obscurity by a repressive patriarchy, overshadowed by famous brother Felix, and published for many years only under his name, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel blossomed as a composer and performer in concerts held in her home.  She was a prolific writer of 300 songs and many choral, chamber, and piano works.  Exactly two hundred years since her birth, Hensel’s life is celebrated by a pair of faculty recitals on November 12 and 14, presented by Westminster College soprano Anne Hagan Bentz, Geneva College tenor David Kenneth Smith, and pianist Marie Libal-Smith, of Carnegie Mellon University and Westminster College.
   
  In the style of the Sonntagsmusik performances that Hensel produced, these performers will present a wide variety of her German art song Lieder, with full English translation, and close with one of Hensel’s vocal duets.
