In the evening, Dr. Carson will give a lecture “Why Doesn’t the Bible Read Like a Systematic Theology? The Importance of Time in Biblical Theology” in Skye Lounge of the Student Center at 7 p.m. This lecture will be in memory of J.G. Vos, a much-loved Bible professor at Geneva. Along with Geerhardus Vos, his father, J.G.Vos was an important proponent of “Biblical Theology,” an approach to reading the Bible that takes into account God’s unfolding plan of redemption from Genesis to Revelation as a unified story, held together by God’s covenants with His people. This memorial lecture is open to the public. Dr. Carson's lecture will be followed by an open Q&A time for discussion.
Professor of Biblical Studies, Dr. Scott Shidemantle, stated, “Dr. D.A. Carson is an excellent fit for the J.G. Vos Memorial Lecture in Biblical Theology because he is an avid proponent of this approach and has published extensively in this area.”
In academic and church settings, Dr. Carson is an active guest lecturer around the world. Along with Dr. Tim Keller and Dr. John Piper, he is a founding member as well as president of the Gospel Coalition, a movement of like-minded Reformed Christians, who are interested in encouraging others in the Reformed faith by providing conferences and resources.
Located at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois since 1978, Dr. Carson is currently a research professor of New Testament. He also served two years as the Academic Dean at Northwest Baptist Theological Seminary in Vancouver, British Columbia. In addition, Dr. Carson used his gifts in Canada and the United Kingdom as a pastor, an assistant pastor, and a worker in itinerant ministry.
Dr. Carson received numerous degrees including the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from McGill University, the Master of Divinity from Central Baptist Seminary, and the Doctor of Philosophy in New Testament from the University of Cambridge. Residing with his wife, Joy, in Libertyville, Illinois, Dr. Carson has written or edited more than 60 books.
