As a part of the Geneva Visiting Artist and Lecture Series, Geneva College will host celebrated speaker Christopher Yuan on Wednesday, September 30. Yuan and his mother Angela Yuan co-authored Out of a Far Country: A Gay Son’s Journey to God, A Broken Mother’s Search for Hope. Yuan will share his testimony at Geneva’s chapel at 10:10 a.m. in Metheny Fieldhouse. He will then speak on “Texts and Hermeneutics" at a faculty lunch at noon. He will end the day with a talk on a “Christian Response” at 7 p.m. in Skye Lounge of the Student Center.
This will be Yuan’s second visit to Geneva, having spoken in chapel in September of 2012. “Geneva College has invited Christopher Yuan to return to campus a second time because he has life experiences, as well as scholarly training, that can help Christians wrestle with one of the most divisive and important issues of our time, homosexuality,” says Dr. Jeff Cole, the Director of Crossroads: Geneva’s Center for Enriched Learning.
Christopher Yuan has experienced the grace of Christ’s redemption and desires to minister about the power of the gospel to radically transform lives. While attending dental school he came out as a gay man and unfortunately began experimenting with drugs. Within a few years he was arrested and imprisoned for dealing drugs and also tested HIV positive. Transformed by the grace of God, Yuan now seeks to help others who are working through issues of sexuality and those living with HIV/AIDS.
An experienced speaker, he travels around the country and abroad presenting to college campuses, churches, youth groups and prison groups. Yuan is currently pursuing a doctorate of ministry at Bethel Seminary, having earned an undergraduate degree from Moody Bible Institute and a Master of Arts in Biblical Exegesis from Wheaton College.
Yuan’s testimony in chapel and his evening lecture are free and open to the public.
